Welcome to the Greater Motown International Rodeo 2010 website! We are pleased to provide you with the information you will need to have a pleasant experience at our rodeo. If you have any unanswered questions, please feel free to email us!

The GMIR 2010 rodeo will be held at the Wayne County Fairgrounds. Admission tickets will be sold at the gates. Visitors may purchase a "Day Pass" ticket for $15 or a "Weekend Pass" ticket for $25.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Contestants will arrive on Friday to check in their animals, if applicable, and register for the rodeo. The rest of the weekend will be filled with entertainment, food, drinks, and plenty of things to see at the Vendor booths.

There will be a dance on Friday night starting at 6 PM and ending at Midnight. Admission to the dance is $5 to individuals without passes.  Show your "day pass" or "weekend pass" and get into the dance for FREE! Those who wish may want to take free Swing dance lessons and then dance the rest of the night away to the fabulous music provided by out DJ's. Check out our Entertainment page for more details.

The gates will open at 10 AM on Saturday and Sunday. The Grand Entry will begin on both days at Noon and the rodeo will close on Sunday with an Awards Ceremony at 6 PM.

Many people have asked what time the events will happen. For example, what time is the Bull Riding? Unfortunately, we can't say "exactly" when it will start.

This is how it works in a rodeo. At noon, our rodeo will begin with a parade which includes the MIGRA Royalty (both current team members and past team members), various dignitaries, and, of course, our Grand Marshal. When the parade has gone by, then the Grand Entry will begin.

The Grand Entry will begin with the mounted entry of the U.S. and Canadian Flags with the U.S. Flag entering first because we are the hosting nation.

  1. Next is the mounted entry of the State /Province Flag of the hosting rodeo. Naturally, this means the Michigan Flag will come next.

Then other flags may follow. There may be other State Flags, Rodeo Association Flags, the Flag of the International Gay Rodeo Association (IGRA), and so on.

Next, our Rodeo Announce, Kimberly Kay, will introduce our Rodeo Officials. These will include the Rodeo Directors and Assistant Directors, the Judges, the Arena Coordinator, Chutes Coordinator, Timekeepers, Scorers, Clowns, and even the Stock Contractor that provided the animals used in the Rodeo!

Following the introductions will be the singing of our National Anthem and the Canadian National Anthem as well. Finally, the posting of the colors will take place.

Once the Parade and the Grand Entry have ended, the events begin. They will run in the order listed below. Unfortunately, it is impossible for us to say what exact time they will start as it all depends on how many contestants compete in the events. Therefore, some events will take longer than others. What we can promise, however, is a long day filled with both pomp & circumstance and exciting action.

Our line-up for the rodeo events, is as follows:

Grand Entry
Calf Roping on foot
Chute Dogging
Breakaway Roping
Team Roping
Bareback Bronc
Goat Dressing
Pole Bending
Steer Riding
Barrel Racing
Steer Decorating
Bull Riding
Flag Racing
Wild Drag

On Saturday night we will offer "bus" transportation to selected Detroit bars from 9 PM until 2 AM. All "buses" leave the host hotel fro the "Bar Crawl" activity. Watch for details at the hotels and rodeo.
